Universitätsmedizin Greifswald
Greifswald University Medical School has its origins in the medical faculty of the University of Greifswald, which was founded in 1456. The research association “Community Medicine” has existed since 1997, the research association “Molecular Medicine” since 2000 and the coordination round “Individualised Medicine” since 2014. Parallel to these focus areas, “Infection and Inflammation”, “Cardiovascular Diseases” and “Abdominal and Metabolic Diseases” manifest themselves in the currently defining association topics.
Universität Greifswald
The University of Greifswald was founded in 1456 and is one of the oldest universities in Central Europe. The university’s research focuses on community medicine and individualised medicine, environmental change: responses and adaptation, cultures of the Baltic Sea region, plasma physics and proteomics and protein technologies.
Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut – Bundesforschungsinstitut für Tiergesundheit
The Friedrich Loeffler Institute was founded in 1910 by the bacteriologist Friedrich Loeffler and has its headquarters on the island of Riems, which belongs to the Hanseatic city of Greifswald. The FLI’s work focuses on the health and welfare of farm animals and the protection of humans from zoonoses, i.e. infections transmissible between animals and humans.
Klinikum Karlsburg – Herz- und Diabeteszentrum
Klinikum Karlsburg is a specialist hospital for heart and metabolic diseases near the city of Greifswald. The Karlsburg Diabetes Competence Centre (KDK) is a cooperation of Klinikum Karlsburg and the Leibniz Institute for Plasma Research and Technology e. V. (INP) to bundle competences in the field of diabetes and the field of plasma technology. The KDK was opened in February 2016 and integrates clinical treatment and practical research in a unique way. The Karlsburg Diabetes Competence Centre makes an important contribution to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic options in the field of diabetes and wound healing, for example with the use of plasma medicine for innovative wound care
