A special recognition as 2025 draws to a close: The Interreg VI A Cooperation Programme Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania / Brandenburg / Poland 2021–2027 has named HEALTH.AI Pomerania its Project of the Month for December 2025!

The project photo featuring Dr. Linus Großmann and Dipl.-Pharm. Lydia Neubauer offers a rare behind-the-scenes look: The two University of Greifswald team members are analysing MRI scans of a test subject at the control console — supported by artificial intelligence. What may appear to be routine is in fact pioneering work: The team at the Institute of Pharmacy is developing an entirely novel AI-assisted diagnostic procedure for functional digestive disorders as part of HEALTH.AI Pomerania.

In an interview with the Cooperation Programme, project manager Zuzanna Papierz discusses what drives the project — and what makes it so special. AI, she says, can help treat more patients in less time. But this does not happen at the push of a button: “Before an innovation can be introduced into existing systems, the groundwork must first be laid — and that is a complex process.” This is precisely where HEALTH.AI Pomerania steps in: with a secure system for the cross-border exchange of medical images, a knowledge platform, a competency module for AI deployment in medicine — and consistent legal support and health-economic analysis across all processes. In the project manager’s view, mutual transparency, direct encounters, and professional project management are indispensable for successful German-Polish cooperation: “Cooperation works best when the differences between partners are understood as resources.”
