Project Partners
University of Greifswald (lead partner of the project)
The University of Greifswald (UG), founded in 1456, is one of the oldest universities in Germany and the Baltic Sea region. It combines centuries of academic tradition with cutting-edge modern research. With its strategic research priorities of One Health, prevention and the Baltic Sea region, an internationally well-connected network of experts in the field of artificial intelligence, and its university hospital, it possesses precisely the expertise needed to advance AI-supported health research in the region. As an experienced partner in numerous international collaborative projects – including several EU projects in the Euroregion Pomerania – it brings both scientific expertise and cross-border networking to the project.
As lead partner of the HEALTH. AI Pomerania project, the UG is responsible for overall coordination and project management. It also contributes its interdisciplinary expertise in the fields of law and economics to the project. The University of Groningen is also taking the lead in the cross-border expansion of its ‘AI for Life’ network for research and innovation in AI in medicine and the life sciences. An innovative use of AI

West Pomeranian Oncology Centre in Szczecin
The West Pomeranian Oncology Centre in Szczecin (ZCO) is the leading oncology hospital in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship – responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and registration of cancer cases in the region, employing a comprehensive interdisciplinary approach combining surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. The ZCO serves as the central data hub for oncology care planning across the entire West Pomerania region.
With its experience in modern diagnostic procedures and innovative treatment methods, the ZCO brings concrete clinical expertise to the HEALTH.AI Pomerania project: it is testing AI applications in the fields of radiology, radiotherapy and pathomorphology in day-to-day clinical practice. The hospital is primarily responsible for establishing a cross-border clinical case database. The project partners benefit greatly from the specialist expertise and strong networking capabilities of the centre’s IT department.

GLG Werner Forßmann Clinic, Eberswalde
The Werner Forßmann Clinic (WFK) in Eberswalde is the largest healthcare provider in north-eastern Brandenburg; with 17 specialist departments, it serves as the medical hub for the districts of Barnim and Uckermark. The Department of Radiotherapy, which is participating in the project, treats the full spectrum of oncological conditions. The Radiology Clinic, also participating in the project, provides modern imaging not only for its own patients but also, via telemedicine, for smaller facilities in the region. The WFK thus exemplifies a challenge that HEALTH.AI Pomerania directly addresses: the use of AI to strengthen medical care in rural areas.
The WFK is testing AI-supported technologies in radiology and radiotherapy with a clear goal: more personalised treatment, more precise diagnostics and the lowest possible radiation exposure for patients. Together with the project lead partner, the WFK is consolidating the project results into a knowledge platform and making the findings available to the entire consortium as well as external parties. Through its telemedicine partnerships with smaller institutions in the region, the WFK helps to ensure that the project results are disseminated across the healthcare provision in north-east Brandenburg.
